(A Medieval town is disturbed by the earsplitting wails of an infant.) Neighbour: Why is he crying? Is he sad about the King being dead? Mother: (Unable to hear over her child) What? Neighbour: (Louder) I said is he sad about the King? Mother: No, he misses his father. Neighbour: Where is his father? Mother: He should be coming home any minute now. Oh there he is. (The father's bell can be heard ringing and his voice gets louder and louder with the chant: 'The King is dead! Long live the King!') |
